Project Goals

Our goal is to provide first and second year University students with a simple game that allows them to build the intuition and understanding of pointers as used in high level languages like C/C++. An educational game online could help motivate and engage these students to participate in a meaningful and educational activity and to explore key concepts outside of the classroom. Putting their theory into practice reinforces the theoretical elements and aids in their retention.

Week 10

At the beginning of this week we put the storyline aside, and focused on the educational content. This area, we decided, was going to be the first aspect we were going to test on the summer high school students . Incorporating the educational content proved to be the most difficult part for us, and it is the most important aspect of our game.
We found that the first 'level' of our game was going to be more of an introduction to the physical memory of a computer, which would provide the student with a solid foundation before continuing. Since physical memory is not our main focus, we concentrated on the second 'level' of our game, that deals directly with pointers.
We made some adjustments to our paper sketches, since some changes were made when we determined the goal of each quest. We also determined which objects/characters were needed to execute these Quests, and turned them into game pieces.
Early next week, we will be prepared to test the educational content of our game, and take note of any alterations that will need to be done.
