Project Goals

Our goal is to provide first and second year University students with a simple game that allows them to build the intuition and understanding of pointers as used in high level languages like C/C++. An educational game online could help motivate and engage these students to participate in a meaningful and educational activity and to explore key concepts outside of the classroom. Putting their theory into practice reinforces the theoretical elements and aids in their retention.

Week 12

The first testing stage was very profitable to us. We were able to discover several details (small and large) that were in need of alterations.
At the beginning of the week, we made the necessary changes to our analogies and posted them for reference under 'Analogies'.
We both agreed that the parts of our game that contained the educational content were our first priority. We focused on implementing the quests, using the maps we had already created.
One difficulty we encountered at the beginning of the coding stage was the excessive number of events on each map (because some maps were meant to be revisited more than once). We needed to implement a different introduction each time the map was revisited, and have different events go off, not only at different times for the duration of that particular map sequence, but at different stages in the game.
The easiest solution to our problem was to create several different copies of the maps that were needed. This helped organize the clutter of events on each map. This also made it much easier to envision the flow of the game, simply by numbering and ordering the different copies of the required maps.
The script for the first, second and third quest are close to being completed. This leaves us with the last 2 quest for next week, and the integration of the quests into the storyline.
